How to handle comments made about feeding my child formula?

I am the adoptive mother of a three month old, so I obviously never had the option of breastfeeding. Even so, I am appalled at the number of strangers that lecture me on the benefits of nursing when they see me mixing formula in public. My sister tells me to just start mixing it at home, but I refuse to change my routine just to keep a few nosy people off my back. Does anyone else have this problem? And what do you say to those people because I'm currently at a loss?

You owe no explanation. I fully support breast feeding and I'm not in favor of formula in most cases, but I recognize that sometimes it's necessary when breast feeding is not an option. Especially when you adopt.I set out to breast feed all my children. I failed with my oldest child. I breast fed for 3 weeks and then due to my own lack of motivation and his weight loss/lactose issues, I gave him formula. He's perfectly healthy. I've breast fed my two other children. One until she was 15 months old. I'm still currently nursing my youngest who is 14 months old. I'm also 5 weeks pregnant with our 4th and I plan to nurse him/her as well. But just because I'm extremely pro-breast feeding doesn't mean I don't know there are exceptions to it :) I'm just glad that your baby found a good, caring mother in YOU. You're doing wonderful. You don't have to say anything to them if you don't want. But if you feel the need to say anything, just say "I adopted". That usually shuts them up quick.

Other Answers:

  • Say "I'm so sorry that adopting a child and caring for it in the only way possible is offensive to you. Have a nice day!"Some people just have no class..
  • Just tell them that breastfeeding isn't an option for you, and tell them they're being rude.
  • You did a wonderful thing and you should not have to feel ashamed for feeding your child, or feel you have to change your routine. I had some of the same comments said to me when I didn't breastfeed but I didn't produce enough milk right away. I used to tell people straight out what the problem was and they would always shut up right after that. I like the response of the first person, it's polite way of telling them to mind their own business and that they shouldn't assume.
  • When they actually say something...look them in the eye and say - hes adopted. And let it go at that..you have already said more than necessary - its no one else's business how you feed your child.

Should I keep starving myself to lose weight?

How to Run to Lose Weight

Recommended Answer:

If you go out for a sport, you won't need to starve yourself and you'll develop healthy behaviors for the rest of your life. I think it's a lot better to be healthy over the long run, and you'll still be really thin if you join water polo, or track, or volleyball or something where you're practicing a few times per week, but you won't have to starve yourself. You're probably a little too thin now, which won't feel too good. You will get anxiety, sleep insomnia, obsessive thoughts, etc. and you won't enjoy it. Maybe go out for a sport and keep eating with your family.

  • NoStarving yourself slows down weight loss.Unless you are getting 1at least/no less 1200 calories a day, your body will go into crisis and hold on to all fat. When the fat is gone it will get its energy from muscle.Your heart is your biggest muscle which is why folks with an eating disorder die from heart failure.
  • Yeah if you want to kill yourself or become ill.Sweetie: 5"5 at 112 isnt fat. Trust me.I"m 117 pounds (5"7-5"9) and you cant call me fat. You didnt need to loose weight in the first place.
  • only if you think you need to, you sound skinny for that height (: that's your choice, most people would say not to and all that crap but I think you should do what makes you happy (: never give up on what you want to accomplish. look up pro Ana pics and quotes to help you, or thinspiration (: good luck
  • I would quit starving myself and eat things in moderation and exercise thats the best way to lose weight in my opinion but just so you know i don't think you're fat bc it doesn't sound like it so just don't worry about it im sure everybody at your school thinks you smokin ;-)
  • Noooo!! That is not going to help! You will eventually put on even more than you weighed before. That is not healthy at all! The healthy way is to slowly increase your exercise and eat healthy and moderately. This does not mean starving yourself or going to bed hungry. You will become so unhealthy and it will take a toll on your body and appearance if you continue starving yourself! Eating healthy and exercising will make you look and feel better!
  • No, The HEALTHY weight of an tall girl 13 is 103 - 118 lbs, so you were not fat before, your not fat now. You are just like so many young teenage girls confused about their weigh gains due to puberty, you will not keep the very slim boyish body you had before puberty. Almost all young teen girla are insecure about their weight and their body shape. This is how so many sad teens get eating disorders, become anorexic, get very sick. No hate, just be careful , your very skinny now, wake up and notice.
