My mom keeps bothering me about my weight?

She seems to think I have gained substantial weight in just a week or two. Last week and the week before, my mom and sister were hounding me for being too thin and wanted me to gain 10 pounds. I'm 5'9 and 127 pounds but look a bit thinner because a lot of my weight is muscle. I didn't want to gain weight so I kept eating normally and exercising and haven't put on any weight, obviously. As recently as last Wednesday they kept telling me I was too thin. Yesterday, however, my mom said "Looks like you're putting on weight in the right places. You're looking good." and says I don't have to gain weight anymore. My sister thinks the same. I'm so confused because it's been not even a week since they were saying I was too thin. I haven't gained and even if I had, it would not be substantial enough to make a noticeable difference on my body in just a week. I've struggled with my weight over the past year and they've been really inconsistent the whole time. My mom kept going back and forth last year with saying I could lose some weight to saying I looked fine and then I lost weight and she couldn't make up her mind on whether I was too thin or not and then she decided for awhile that I was and then a week later I'm not. It frustrates me because I'm trying to just maintain my weight here and one minute my mom is trying to shove food down my throat and constantly making sure I have an excess amount of calories and the next she doesn't care how little I eat. What should I do?

How to Lower Cortisol Levels and Lose Weight

Body image is a huge issue to young women, and it's been a serious pandemic for decades now. The three things to a sound body? Good diet, regular & varied exercise, and a strong mind. It seems you nailed the diet and exercise components, but many of us struggle with the mind part. It's important to never, never, NEVER let other people get into your minds. It's okay to get some guidance from another view, but you shouldn't depend on other too much. Based on your height and weight, your BMI is fantastic! You're just above the bottom border of the normal area and quite frankly close to the underweight area, but you are just fine! Stay confident in yourself. That's very key. Your mind can have a drastic effect on your body, so it's important to keep it in a positive attitude.I also think you should talk to you mother and sister. Tell them how you feel about their comments. Hopefully by sharing your thoughts and concerns with them, you'll all be on the same page. Hope this helps~

  • People who are unhappy with themselves will often look for the flaws in others...IGNORE them!
  • Hi!You're beautiful. I guess your mom and your sister are probably afraid that you might end up obese or overweight. It sounds like you're also confident of your body, and you care a lot about your health. We really cannot choose our parents or siblings, but we can choose on how to respond to their words.Maybe they have been really bothering you to that point that it made you ask around for help on what to do.If you have not visited your them yet in a long while, try visiting a dietician, a gym trainer or your family doctor. Consult them about your body health. You might even want to invite your mom and sister with you.Just tell them and show them that you're eating right, doing enough exercises every week and getting enough sleep. Remind them how much you love them by trying to follow their advice and "demands".Feel free to Invite them to health classes/ seminars that you know would help them understand more about bodies, metabolism, and health. You may also want to ask your friends about what they think. And at the end of the day, ask yourself about whose opinion really matter to you. Parents, friends, even experts aren't perfect. We may all have a ton of different demands, preferences and knowledge. I hope you would find confidence and security in the author of life.P. S.I'm not sure if you know God or not but if you do, pray for them. If you know and believe that we humans are limited, then ask help from someone who is unlimited.

If you want to put on weight, you should work out, to insure that youput on muscle and not fat. Healthy weight gain, just like healthyweight loss, takes time and requires a conscious effort to apply goodhabits.Recommended Ways to Gain WeightHave meals with the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and theright kinds of fat (such as unsaturated and monounsaturated fats, olive oil, canola oil, pistachios, almonds and walnuts). Heinemannsuggests the following ratio: 60%-70% carbohydrates, 10%-15% protein, and a small amount of fat.Eat foods higher in calories, vitamins, and minerals, as opposedto higher in fat or sugar. Pack more nutritious calories in eachserving. For example, you may add grated cooked eggs to mashedpotatoes, ground chicken to soups and gravies, cheese in casseroles, eggs, and soups, and nonfat dried milk in soups, shakes, milk, andmashed potatoes. If you get too full too fast, try having more high-calorie foods orslices of foods as opposed to consuming the whole thing (raisinsversus grapes, granola and Grape Nuts versus corn flakes, mango slicesversus the whole mango).Limit drinking beverages to a half-hour before and after a meal.Drink mixed juices (apple/berry, peach/orange/banana as opposed to onejuice beverages) for a higher calorie intake. With moderation, you mayadd in good fat sources to meals such as nuts, avocado, olives, andfatty fish (salmon and mackerel).Snack in between meals. Nuts, dried fruits, and yogurtare good options, but it's also important to find nutritious foodsthat you will enjoy. Have a nutritious snack before bedtime, such as apeanut butter sandwich.

  • To gain weight you need to combine protein foods with starchy carbohydrates as indicated below. Good weight gaining combinations are bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes or sweet potatoes combined with meat, poultry, eggs, cheese, nuts or sea food. Peanut butter sandwiches and cheese sandwiches are good weight gaining combinations. The protein in the above combinations will help to gain extra muscles.
  • Eat chicken, eggs, beef and fish with a lesser amount of vegetables. Make sure to exercise because that's where muscles come from. Your muscles should make up at least 90% of your body weight.
