How is it possible to burn off more calories than you eat in a day?

I know it's how you lose weight, but when I go to the gym almost every other day, I work hard and the most amount of calories I usually burn is 600. And I know for a fact, it can't be safe to consume under that many calories per day.

How to Eat Carbs and Lose Weight

Recommended Answer:

Your body burns calories just by living. You would burn somewhere around 1300 calories if you just stayed in bed all day. Then you have to add in living your life and exercise. If you burn 600 cals through exercise you probably burn 2000 calories or more a day.

Other Answers:

  • Because your body burns off calories even when its in a resting state. How much you burn depends on how much you weigh--Google for a calories burned calculator.
  • -Actually, -it's Easy ! 1,400 Calories is the "Break Even" # of Calories- it take to maintain a Stable Weight ( for a Woman) under Every Day living conditions. So if You burn off an extra 600 Calories by Exercising- on TOP of the 1,400 you Consumed, you will have taken in a total of 800 Calories for that Day . -THUS losing Weight, over Time if you keep Exercising !! :)
  • Your body requires a certain amount of calories to function a day. This is different for each person. Your gender, weight, height & age all effect that number. Look up a scale online and find out what your number is. Weight watchers may have one that you can access free as will several health related websites. To lose weight you must eat below THAT number. Adding exercise to burn more calories will increase your ability to lose weight AND make you healthier. Also investigate foods. Sometimes what and when you eat is as important as the calories. Finally, make sure your nutrition needs are being met. Is not going to help you to lose the fat if it puts you in the hospital.
