Scared of going under for surgery, any tips on how to stay relaxed?

I'm 18 and graduated about a month ago. My weight is 150 kg ( 330 lbs ), before I start college I want to lose weight. I have tried multiple diets over the years and nothing seems to work! My dad had a restriction operation ( weight loss surgery ) a little over a year ago and he went from 170 kg ( 380lbs ) to 90 kg ( 190 lbs ) in that time period. So I convinced my parents that I needed to do this and they were on board from the get go! I went to meet the doctor a while back and I went for a blood check up and everything, I was very excited. Today we get a call from a receptionist telling us that the operation is on Wednesday ( 2 days from now ) and that I have to be in my hospital room the night before. At that very moment it was the most amazing news ever! Now, I'm very worried about the surgery and going under. In my country hundreds of people had this surgery because we have a lot of obese people, this comforts me. We rarely hear a story of someone passing away from this surgery. Also the same doctor who did the procedure on my father is doing it on me. I am also afraid of not waking up which sounds ridiculous I know but I'm just scared. However, I'm not scared enough to not want this but I just worried I guess. Ever since I was a kid I was bullied because of my weight, heck even my grandmother made fun of me. I don't have a lot of friends because I hate myself for being fat and so I don't appeal to other people. I was always quiet because being fat made me feel less of a person than anyone else due to the snarky comments and bullying. I hate being known as ______ the fat guy. I even turned down summer jobs I dreamed of as a kid because I'm afraid of being made fun as. I feel like I wasted a lot of my years because I was too ashamed of myself, and I want that to stop. So do you have any great tips to calm down? It will also help if you share a story about you or something you've heard related to this subject.

I have had operations and yes, everyone is nervous. You will be given a sleeping pill the night before so you will have a good sleep before the operation. Before you are wheeled into the operating room you will be given something to relax you. By the time you get in there you are going to feel very sleepy. Then you will be given something else and away you go into dreamland and you will not wake up until much later. And it is over! You will be very sleepy and dopey the first day. You will be kept comfortable with medication so you do not have much in the way of pain. You will recover very quickly. They get people up and moving the next day if they can. It is better for the patient if she starts getting mobile as soon as they think she can. You will be having good chats with the nurses and other patients and enjoying it even though you have just had an operation. Believe me. Some of the patients you might want to keep in contact with after you get home. I have made friends the same way. Some of the doctors can be very funny people, too. Best wishes with your new start on life. I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday.
