  • This new Paleo Diet has SOME advantages--but it's not very much different from other "diet" books--in that it restricts some things and promotes others. The truth is, ALL diets and diet books are based on apocryphal--not scientific--information. They take a little bit of truth and expand it to fit everyone. This diet is no different in that respect. It has not been shown to be the way a human being should or should not eat. There is plenty of GOOD information on that available--and it hasn't changed much over the decades--eating healthy and losing weight depend on only one thing: eating fewer calories than you burn off and making sure your diet is balanced nutritionally. It's a very simple equation. Trying to eat the way your "evolutionary" ancestors eat may or may not be healthier than eating ordinary food in an ordinary way--and burning off the calories you eat is the ONLY proven way to lose weight. Read the Wiki article and scroll down to "Opposing Views". The supposed "science" the diet is based on has no real basis in reality or history. It is not a proven "fact." There certainly is nothing wrong with eating better food--but don't do it based on someone's skewed notions of what is and is not historical accuracy.
  • if you want to follow the Paleo Diet, yes, the book is a good buy! And yes, the Paleo Diet will help you to lose weight. Warning!! the word "diet" is a very dirty 4-letter word meaning a short period of semi starvation and deprivation. Going off any diet will cause rapid weight gain over and above what you lost! Make this a lifestyle food plan and change permanently to it.Yes you can have "cheat treats" once every 2 weeks or so! Half a normal serving of something you have deprived yourself of. This prevents guilts and cravings! My Endo told me to do this! He said it makes for lifelong changes eventually.
